Yes. Browsing the registry, viewing source links, and reading published policies is free and does not require an account. A free account adds light AI features (1 cohort brief, 3 AI policy reviews, and 3 AI comparisons per month). Paid Starter, Pro, and Founding Member tiers expand the AI quotas and unlock XLSX and DOCX exports.

Accepted Answer

Public, primary sources only: official municipal websites, council and committee meeting agendas and minutes, by-laws and administrative directives, public reports, and news coverage that links to a primary source. Every entry in the registry includes a link to the source document so anyone can verify it.

What does each policy status mean — Adopted, Draft, In development, None found?

Accepted Answer

Adopted means a council, board, or executive has formally approved an AI policy, directive, or framework that is now in force. Draft means a written document exists publicly but has not been formally approved. In development means there is public evidence of work underway (e.g. a council motion, RFP, or staff report). None found means our review of public sources did not surface any AI-specific governance document — it does not mean none exists; if you have a source, please submit it.

Does Got AI Policy verify or certify compliance?

No. We are a directory of public evidence, not an auditor or accreditation body. We surface what governments have published; whether a policy meets a particular standard (ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, OECD principles, Canada's Directive on Automated Decision-Making) is a separate assessment that we do not perform.

Anya is the in-product AI analyst persona that powers the registry's AI features (executive synthesis, side-by-side comparison, policy review, cohort briefs). Anya is built on top of Google Gemini models accessed through a managed AI gateway, and is grounded in the publicly cited sources in our registry.

How does Got AI Policy handle AI hallucinations in summaries?

Three guardrails: (1) every AI summary cites the underlying source document so claims can be checked against the original, (2) AI outputs are clearly labelled as AI-generated and reviewable, and (3) the registry data itself (status, source URL, organization name) is human-curated, not AI-generated. We treat AI summaries as a starting point for human review, never as final advice.

Which Canadian municipalities are tracked?

Accepted Answer

Coverage is national — we track municipalities across all ten provinces and three territories, with priority given to larger cities, regional governments, and capitals. Smaller municipalities are added as evidence appears or as the community submits sources.

Does Got AI Policy cover provincial, federal, Indigenous, school board, or health authority AI policies?

Our primary focus is municipal and regional government. We also surface relevant provincial and federal frameworks (such as Canada's Directive on Automated Decision-Making and Ontario's Trustworthy AI Framework) where they apply to municipal practice. School boards, health authorities, Crown corporations, and Indigenous governments are added as evidence is submitted.

Why might an organization be missing information?

Either no public AI-specific document exists yet, the document exists but is not publicly indexed in a way our review caught, or it exists in a format (closed agenda packet, internal SharePoint, paywalled news) we cannot link to. If you have a source, the fastest way to update an entry is the submit-a-source form.

Does Got AI Policy work outside Canada?

The registry is Canadian-focused. The AI tools (policy review, side-by-side comparison, executive synthesis) work on any English or French policy document you upload, regardless of country, and reference international frameworks (ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, OECD AI Principles) where useful.

Pick two or more policies from the registry (or your own uploaded policies) and Anya produces a structured comparison: a summary report, a thematic table (scope, governance, risk, transparency, procurement, training, redress), and a bullet-point digest of differences. Free accounts can compare up to 2 at a time, Starter and Pro up to 6, Founding Members up to 12.

A cohort brief is an AI-generated executive synthesis across a group of municipalities you select (e.g. all Ontario cities over 100k population, or your peer comparator group). It surfaces shared themes, gaps, and outliers in their AI governance — designed to drop into a council memo or staff report.

Yes. The Review my policy tool accepts PDF or text uploads and returns a structured analysis (clarity, scope, risk treatment, governance, gaps vs comparable Canadian policies). Free accounts get 3 reviews per month, Pro accounts get 60, Founding Members are unlimited.

Is my uploaded policy private?

Yes. Policies you upload to Review my policy are private to your account by default and are not visible to other users. Database row-level security enforces this — your uploads do not appear in the public registry, in search, or in other users' compare buckets unless you explicitly publish them.

English and French. The interface, the registry metadata, and the AI tools all support both official languages, with full parity between EN and FR.

Yes. Any signed-in account can download CSV and PDF exports of registry rows and AI reports — Free accounts within a 10-row / 3-export-per-month cap. Starter, Pro and Founding Member tiers add XLSX and DOCX formats and lift the row and monthly caps. A read-only API is on the roadmap; in the meantime, email support@gotaipolicy.ca for bulk-data requests, especially for academic and journalistic use.

Got AI Policy is a digital service; all sales are final after the trial. Exceptions are limited to genuine billing errors and any case where a refund is required by law. The 14-day Pro trial exists so you can fully evaluate the platform before paying.

Account and security emails always send (password reset, sign-in alerts, billing receipts). Everything else is opt-in: site announcements, direct messages, forum replies, new forum threads, and product updates (blog + changelog).

What's the difference between instant and daily?

Accepted Answer

Instant sends one email per event. Daily groups everything from the last 24 hours into one digest delivered around 1pm UTC. Off means no email for that category — the in-app notification still appears.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every notification email includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer that turns off all marketing-style emails at once. You can also toggle individual categories in Settings → Email at any time. Account and security emails are not affected.

Do uploaded policies train AI models?

No. We do not directly train public AI models on raw uploaded policies, private drafts, direct messages, or forum content. Uploaded policies are processed to generate the review requested by the user.

Do you use policy reviews to improve the platform?

We may use anonymized and aggregated analytical insights from many reviews to improve benchmarking, recommendations, prompt quality, safety checks, and usability. These insights are used at a systems level and are not intended to identify users or organizations or reproduce original documents.

What is the difference between analytics and AI training?

Accepted Answer

Analytics helps us understand broad trends, quality issues, and usability patterns. AI training changes a model based on training data. Got AI Policy may use anonymized and aggregated analytics to improve the service, but we do not directly train public AI models on raw uploaded policies or private user content.

Should I upload confidential information?

Accepted Answer

No. Do not upload confidential, restricted, personal, or third-party information unless you are authorized to do so and your organization permits it. AI-generated reviews are a starting point and must be checked by a human.

Can an organization request changes to its entry?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Organizations can submit corrections, updates, or new source links through the same submit-a-source form, or by emailing support@gotaipolicy.ca. We will not remove a verified public source on request, but we will add new context, link to the most recent version, and correct factual errors quickly.

How do I report an error or out-of-date link?

Use the submit-a-source form for new sources or corrections, or email support@gotaipolicy.ca with the page URL and what needs to change. We respond within a few business days.
