2026 Mid-Year Review

A frozen snapshot of what the public Got AI Policy registry can show today. The numbers come straight from the registry; qualitative statements are limited to what that same registry can support.

What the registry shows

The registry continued to grow through the first half of 2026 through community-verified additions and manual classification. The numbers above reflect the rows present in the registry as of the snapshot date shown — not an extrapolation or a projection.

Every registry row is classified into one of: (1) source-linked, (2) human-verified, (3) AI-scouted awaiting verification, (4) in-progress / consultation, (5) published public policy. The statistics above only include rows we could confirm under these rules.

We deliberately do not publish 2027 predictions, a "leading cities" ranking, or a claim about the single most common member question here — those would require methods and data the registry alone does not provide. See the methodology below.

Methodology

  • Single source: the public Got AI Policy registry table as of the snapshot date.
  • "With published AI policy" = registry row with a live source URL and status verified or source-linked.
  • "Coverage" = published policies ÷ municipalities tracked on the snapshot date. Do not read this as national coverage of all Canadian municipalities — only of those in the registry.
  • Later changes to the registry do not affect this review; they will appear in the next frozen snapshot.

Definitions

Source-linked
The policy URL is present and points to an official domain.
Human-verified
A member or admin opened the document, confirmed scope, and dated the check.
AI-scouted
Automated lead awaiting human review. Not counted in "with published policy".
In-progress
Drafting, public consultation, or pending vote. Tracked separately.

Revision history

  • July 18, 2026 — Renamed to "2026 Mid-Year Review". Removed claims the registry alone cannot support ("tripled in H1", "most common questions", "leading cities", 2027 predictions). Added methodology, definitions, sources, and this section.

A true 2026 annual recap will publish in January 2027 from the frozen year-end snapshot.
